About the role#
Join Gannett Fleming as a Water Engineering Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work on a team providing design services for water, wastewater, and municipal infrastructure projects. This role offers mentorship from experienced engineers and professionals, with the goal of supporting your professional development.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the planning, design, and construction administration of infrastructure projects.
- Assist with site visits, surveys, inspections, and data collection for utility projects.
- Support the preparation of reports, design plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Review subdivision, land development, grading, and zoning plans, including stormwater management and erosion control.
- Aid in preparing permit applications for federal, state, and local agencies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ABET-accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering.
- Demonstrated interest in water or wastewater engineering through prior internships, work experience, or academic coursework.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in the field and contribute to project teams.
- Familiarity with BIM, Civil 3D, GIS, hydraulic or hydrologic modeling, and other specialty engineering software is preferred.
- Experience with municipal and private utilities is a plus.

- Location: Woodbury, New York.
- Term: Summer 2027 (Mid-May through mid-August).
- Work Modality: Hybrid.
- Employment Status: Full-time, paid internship.
- Compensation: $21.00 to $28.00 per hour, depending on experience and location.
- Note: This position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check.
