About the role#
As an Industrial Engineer Intern at Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will support process improvement projects in a modular construction manufacturing environment. You will work directly on the plant floor in Killeen, Texas, where modular housing units are assembled. You will report to the Plant Manager and gain exposure to engineering tools and strategies used to measure and improve manufacturing systems. This is a full-time, on-site role for the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Analyze prime net yield data to identify trends and increase production profitability.
- Work with production, quality, and finance teams to investigate root causes of yield loss and implement corrective actions.
- Manage Excel documents to support data tracking and reporting.
- Develop process improvement techniques to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
- Conduct time studies across different production stages.
- Measure process outputs to determine equipment capacity and identify bottlenecks.
- Maintain daily records of observations, data, and findings.
- Collect and analyze data using statistical tools to evaluate process performance.
- Assist in testing and validating process improvement experiments.
- Summarize findings and present recommendations to site leadership.
- Promote healthy and safe work practices.
What you'll need#
- Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized with analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple departments as a team player.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Availability to travel for the Internship Summit.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
