About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at Atlas Tube, you will support engineering projects that improve equipment reliability, manufacturing efficiency, safety, and product quality. You will work alongside Engineering, Maintenance, and Operations teams to assist with equipment upgrades, process optimization, and root cause analysis. This role provides hands-on experience in heavy manufacturing and industrial systems while exploring future career opportunities within Zekelman Industries.
What you'll do#
- Support engineering projects focused on equipment reliability, production efficiency, and plant operations.
- Assist with mechanical system troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Collect and analyze maintenance data to identify improvement opportunities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives for safety, quality, and cost performance.
- Create and update engineering drawings, equipment documentation, and standard work instructions.
- Conduct time studies and process observations to support operational excellence.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement practical solutions.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance initiatives.
- Assist with project planning, vendor coordination, and equipment commissioning.
- Follow healthy and safe work practices in accordance with company policy.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program for Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work within a team.
- Experience with CAD software like SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Inventor is preferred.
- Exposure to manufacturing processes or maintenance systems is a plus.
- Availability to travel for the company-wide Internship Summit.
