About the role#
This internship offers an opportunity to gain experience in transportation consulting. You will work alongside staff at all levels and take on tasks similar to those of entry-level employees. The program focuses on professional development, providing continuous feedback to help you grow your career in the field. This is a full-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
- Work on diverse projects such as traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight and goods movement planning, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
- Communicate ideas clearly in writing and orally, including during community engagement settings.
- Use software to make informed, timely recommendations.
- Learn and adopt new tools and technologies to support your daily work.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor’s degree (junior or senior standing) or a master’s degree program.
- Academic background in fields such as Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Health, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Anthropology, Graphic Design, or Data Science.
- Strong interest in transportation planning or engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- A desire to partner with and serve local communities.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software, traffic operations software, design and drafting software, or travel demand modeling software.
- An open approach to using new technologies while maintaining critical thinking.
Location & details#
- Location: Los Angeles, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: $25 to $28 per hour.
- Sick time is accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
