About the role#
This internship program focuses on skill development and professional experience. You will work alongside staff at all levels on various projects to gain insight into a career in transportation consulting. Interns take on tasks and responsibilities similar to entry-level staff. You will receive continuous feedback throughout the program.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
- Work on projects such as traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight and goods movement planning, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, including in community engagement settings.
- Use software effectively to make timely, informed recommendations.
- Adopt new tools and ways of working while maintaining professional judgment and accountability for results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree (junior or senior standing) or master's degree program.
- Academic background in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Health, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Anthropology, Graphic Design, or Data Science.
- Strong interest in transportation planning or engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- A desire to partner with and serve local communities.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS), traffic operations software (VISSIM, Synchro), design and drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), or travel demand modeling software (TransCAD, Cube).
- Openness to exploring and using new technologies.

- Compensation: Paid position, with sick time accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
