About the role#
This internship offers hands-on experience in transportation consulting. You will work alongside staff at all levels to develop your professional skills and gain insight into the industry. Interns take on tasks similar to those of entry-level staff and receive continuous feedback throughout the program.
What you'll do#
- Solve complex transportation planning and engineering problems.
- Work on diverse projects, including traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight movement, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional plans.
- Communicate project findings clearly in writing and during community engagement settings.
- Use technical software to make informed recommendations.
- Adopt new tools and technologies while using professional judgment and critical thinking.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's (junior or senior standing) or master's degree program.
- Academic background in civil engineering, transportation or urban planning, geography, public policy, economics, sociology, statistics, anthropology, graphic design, data science, or GIS.
- Strong interest in transportation planning and engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS), traffic operations software (VISSIM, Synchro), design and drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), or travel demand modeling software (TransCAD, Cube).

- This is a paid, full-time internship. Sick time is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
