About the role#
This internship program focuses on professional development and hands-on experience in transportation consulting. You will work alongside staff at all levels and take on tasks similar to those of entry-level employees. We provide continuous feedback to help you grow your career and gain insight into the industry.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
- Work on diverse projects such as traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight and goods movement, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
- Communicate project information clearly in writing and through oral presentations, including in community engagement settings.
- Use specialized software to develop informed recommendations.
- Learn and adopt new tools and technologies while maintaining critical thinking and accountability for your results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree (junior or senior standing) or a master's degree program.
- Relevant coursework in fields such as Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Public Health, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Anthropology, Graphic Design, or Data Science.
- A strong interest in transportation planning or engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build interpersonal relationships.
- A passion for partnering with and serving local communities.
- Proficiency in at least one relevant software tool, such as Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS), traffic operations software (VISSIM, Synchro), design and drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), or travel demand modeling software (TransCAD, Cube).

- Commitment: Full-time.
- Compensation: Paid internship with an hourly wage of 25-28 USD.
- Sick time is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
