About the role#
This summer internship program focuses on professional development and hands-on experience in transportation consulting. You will work alongside staff at all levels to gain insight into the field. Interns take on tasks and responsibilities similar to those of entry-level staff. You will receive continuous feedback throughout the program to help guide your career growth.
What you'll do#
- Solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
- Work on projects such as traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight and goods movement planning, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
- Communicate project information clearly in writing and through oral presentations, including in community engagement settings.
- Use technical software to make informed recommendations.
- Adopt new tools and technologies while maintaining professional judgment and accountability for your results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's (junior or senior standing) or master's degree program. Relevant fields include Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Anthropology, Graphic Design, or Data Science.
- Interest in transportation planning or engineering principles.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills plus the ability to build interpersonal relationships.
- A desire to partner with and serve local communities.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS), traffic operations software (VISSIM, Synchro), design and drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), or travel demand modeling software (TransCAD, Cube).

- Compensation: This is a paid internship with an hourly wage of 24-30 USD. Sick time is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
