About the role#
This internship program focuses on professional development and hands-on experience in transportation consulting. You will work alongside staff at all levels to gain insight into the field. Interns take on tasks and responsibilities similar to those of our entry-level staff. We provide continuous feedback throughout the program to support your career growth. Schedules are determined based on your availability and the needs of our office.
What you'll do#
- Analyze and solve complex transportation planning or engineering problems.
- Work on projects such as traffic operations simulations, bicycle and pedestrian plans, freight and goods movement planning, traffic impact studies, travel demand modeling, transit planning, and regional transportation plans.
- Communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both in writing and during community engagement settings.
- Use software to develop informed recommendations.
- Adopt new tools and technologies while maintaining professional judgment and accountability for your results.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or completion of a bachelor's degree (junior or senior standing) or a master's degree program. We consider various majors including Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, Statistics, Graphic Design, Data Science, and related fields.
- Strong interest in transportation planning or engineering principles.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to give presentations.
- A commitment to partnering with and serving local communities.
- Proficiency in at least one of the following: Microsoft Excel, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, ArcGIS, statistical software (Stata, R, SPSS), traffic operations software (VISSIM, Synchro), design and drafting software (AutoCAD, MicroStation), or travel demand modeling software (TransCAD, Cube).
- An openness to using new technologies while applying critical thinking.

- Term: Summer 2027.
- Compensation: Paid position at $25 to $28 per hour.
- Benefits: Sick time is accrued at 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.
