About the role#
As an AI Software Intern, you will apply machine learning and deep learning techniques to solve complex physical, geometric, and vision constraints in additive manufacturing. You will work with core software teams to design, prototype, and scale algorithms that advance automated part preparation, spatial data analysis, and intelligent monitoring systems.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and evaluate machine learning models for 3D spatial data, geometric analysis, and automated print workflows.
- Develop and refine real-time vision pipelines and time-series analysis for system monitoring and defect detection.
- Profile and optimize model architectures to ensure fast, resource-efficient execution in desktop software or cloud environments.
- Partner with software engineers and cross-disciplinary teams to translate research concepts into functional, high-quality software prototypes.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- Strong foundations in linear algebra and 3D geometry.
- Deep proficiency in Python and hands-on prototyping experience using PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Solid foundational knowledge of C++ and clean code principles.
- Experience handling unstructured datasets, such as point clouds, meshes, or voxel grids.
- Experience applying machine learning to real-world physical systems.
- Familiarity with edge deployment optimization like TensorRT or ONNX Runtime.
- Experience with open-source 3D or computational geometry processing libraries like Open3D or CGAL.
Location & details#
- Location: Somerville, MA (On-site).
- Term: Winter 2027 (January-April).
- Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $3,700-$4,500 USD bi-weekly.
- This role is paid and does not offer housing or relocation assistance.
