    About the role#

    As a Hardware R&D Engineering Intern, you will join the Platform Technology team to research and develop next generation printers and materials. This role involves using engineering, physics, and experimentation to turn ideas into accurate parts. You will be a member of a multi-disciplinary team of mechanical, systems, and software engineers.

    What you'll do#

    • Design, build, and innovate new 3D printing techniques, ranging from new printer architectures to validating changes in galvo control.
    • Work across teams to implement improvements to current products, such as redesigning support structure algorithms based on experimental results.
    • Evaluate current printer performance to identify areas for improvement.
    • Design and execute experiments, using the results to inform hardware or software developments.
    • Tackle complex and open-ended problems that span multiple engineering disciplines.

    What you'll need#

    • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering.
    • Experience with experiment design and data analysis.
    • Proficiency in programming and scientific computing, ideally Python or Matlab.
    • Familiarity with mechanical design, mechatronics, CAD modeling, and hands-on prototyping.
    • Previous experience working on a consumer product.
    • Experience developing physics-based models of complex systems.
    • Ability to work autonomously and a willingness to question assumptions using data.
    • A portfolio of your previous engineering work or projects is required.

    Location & details#

    • Location: On-site in Somerville, Massachusetts.
    • Term: Fall 2026 (September 14 to December 18).
    • Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week).
    • Compensation: $1,575 to $1,950 per week, paid bi-weekly.
    • This is a paid internship. No housing or relocation assistance is provided.
