Industrial Design Fellowship

About the role#

The Industrial Design Fellowship is a full-time, six-month position based on-site in Somerville, Massachusetts. You will work alongside an interdisciplinary team of designers, engineers, and scientists to contribute to the development of new hardware products. This role focuses on creating accessible and productive user experiences while maintaining the brand's aesthetic standards.

What you'll do#

• Design new products throughout the entire lifecycle, from initial concepts to final production.
• Develop design concepts using clear and compelling visual communication.
• Engage in continuous prototyping, ranging from quick mockups to refined cosmetic models.
• Test designs with users and translate feedback into actionable improvements.
• Create high-quality CAD to effectively communicate design intent.
• Collaborate with Product, UI Design, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to develop well-balanced solutions.
• Assist with hardware user experience refinement, including unboxing and maintenance, as well as cosmetic specification and validation.

What you'll need#

• A completed degree in Industrial Design. Candidates with related degrees in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Graphic Design will also be considered.
• A robust portfolio showcasing relevant design work.
• Demonstrated fluency in aesthetic decision-making and a strong eye for detail.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD, Keyshot, and Adobe CC.
• Ability to communicate concepts quickly through hand sketching.
• Experience solving problems while considering engineering and manufacturability constraints.
• Comfort with a variety of prototyping methods.

Location & details#

• Location: Somerville, Massachusetts (On-site).
• Schedule: Full-time, 6-month term.
• Compensation: Salaried, paid bi-weekly at a rate of $1,575–$1,950 per week.
