About the role#
As an Industrial Design Intern, you will join an interdisciplinary team of designers, engineers, and scientists. You will help create hardware that balances functionality and aesthetics for our 3D printing products. This role focuses on the end-to-end design process, from initial concepts to final production.
What you'll do#
- Design new products from the initial idea through to production.
- Develop design concepts using clear, compelling visual communication.
- Create prototypes ranging from quick mockups to refined cosmetic models.
- Test designs with users and apply feedback to the design process.
- Produce high-quality CAD to communicate design intent.
- Refine the hardware user experience, including unboxing and maintenance.
- Collaborate with Product, UI, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to develop solutions.
- Assist with cosmetic specification and validation.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a university degree in Industrial Design or a related design or engineering field.
- Fluency in aesthetic decision-making and a strong eye for detail.
- Ability to communicate ideas quickly through hand sketches.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, Keyshot, and Adobe CC.
- Experience with engineering and manufacturability constraints.
- Comfort with various prototyping methods.
Location & details#
- Location: Somerville, Massachusetts.
- Term: Winter and Spring 2027.
- Commitment: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: $1,350 to $1,675 per week, paid bi-weekly.
