About the role#
As a Nurse Extern at Encompass Health, you will work directly with our rehabilitation team to provide care for patients. This role offers an opportunity to gain clinical experience while supporting the recovery process of our patients.
What you'll do#
- Assist patients with daily activities and body mechanics as delegated by the rehabilitation team.
- Communicate changes in a patient condition or concerns to nurses or therapists.
- Obtain vital signs and document this information in the electronic medical record.
- Collect urine, stool, and sputum samples for special procedures.
- Review hygiene, treatments, and daily living activities with patients and their families.
- Support patients during feeding and participate in the Therapeutic Dining Group.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and assist with the care of equipment.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse program with good academic standing.
- Successful completion of the first term of nursing courses, including a fundamentals of nursing course or equivalent.
- Ability to provide proof of continued enrollment and passing grades each semester.
- BLS (CPR) certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
- Submission of one or two instructor evaluations showing satisfactory performance of nursing skills.
- Successful completion of a preceptor tool and core competency assessments.
- One year of experience in an inpatient clinical setting is preferred.
