About the role#
Emerson is looking for an AI Engineering Co-Op to work with our product development teams in Marshalltown. You will work directly with engineers to observe their current workflows, from initial requirements to final release. This role focuses on building and shipping real tools rather than academic research. You will help our teams work more effectively by automating repetitive tasks and integrating AI into our engineering processes.
What you'll do#
- Embed with engineering teams to document existing workflows and identify opportunities for AI automation.
- Design, prototype, and deploy AI agents tailored to tasks like test coverage analysis, design reviews, and documentation generation.
- Build feedback loops with engineering users to measure the impact of your tools and iterate on your designs.
- Translate complex engineering processes into clear, AI-ready specifications.
- Document your solutions and findings to ensure work can be scaled and handed off to other teams.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience building with LLMs and AI agent frameworks.
- Strong Python skills and comfort building scripts or small applications.
- Experience with workflow automation tools like n8n, Zapier, or Power Automate, or RAG pipelines.
- Familiarity with version control, REST APIs, and basic cloud infrastructure.
- Ability to interview subject matter experts and translate technical domain knowledge into software requirements.

- This is a full-time, paid co-op position.
