About the role#
The Policy & Legislation (PAL) department at Earthjustice is seeking an undergraduate intern for the winter 2027 term. This role supports our efforts to defend environmental laws and protect courtroom victories from legislative challenges at the federal level. You will gain insight into congressional procedures, policy advocacy, and coalition building while working directly with our team.
What you'll do#
- Research and track policy issues by monitoring Senate and House Committees.
- Attend and take notes at Congressional hearings, coalition meetings, and department meetings.
- Draft and distribute materials including fact sheets, policy documents, and email blasts.
- Assist with the planning of PAL-sponsored events, such as Congressional briefings and advocate fly-ins.
- Communicate with Congressional and agency offices.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment as a junior or senior in a college or university program during spring 2027.
- Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of online research tools and MS Office programs.
- A commitment to 15-20 hours per week for 10-12 weeks.
- An interest in environmental or social justice issues, politics, and the policymaking process.
- Ability to work effectively on a team and learn new subject areas.
Location & details#
- This is a paid position with an hourly rate of $19.61.
- The role is based in Washington, DC, and requires a hybrid work schedule.
- Preferred majors include Political Science, Environmental Engineering, History, Communications, and Economics.
