About the role#
The RRE Engineering Internship and Co-op Program offers students the chance to work on real-world projects alongside experienced engineers. You will support our regulated and renewable energy generation facilities, focusing on safety, efficiency, system performance, and environmental compliance. This program runs for 10 to 12 weeks during the summer of 2027.
What you'll do#
- Gain hands-on experience in plant systems engineering, maintenance, and energy production.
- Work with equipment including pumps, motors, control systems, turbines, generators, and switch gears.
- Perform system inspections, equipment calibrations, and heat performance analysis.
- Collaborate with teams to meet project goals and maintain facility reliability.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in Nuclear, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Electrical, or Industrial and Systems Engineering, or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology.
- Expected graduation date no earlier than August 2027.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Previous engineering work experience.
- Technical proficiency in computers, software, and engineering applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership, decision-making abilities, and the capacity to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to manage time, plan, and execute work to deliver high-quality results.
- A valid driver’s license and reliable, consistent transportation.

- Location: Topton, North Carolina.
- Work Modality: Hybrid and on-site.
- Employment Type: Full-time.
- This position does not provide visa sponsorship.
- Depending on the site, you may be exposed to mechanical or electrical hazards and will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as hardhats and safety glasses.
