    About the role#

    This internship provides hands-on experience in the Relay Construction and Maintenance department. You will assist in maintaining substation and transmission facilities to ensure grid reliability. You will work directly with Journeymen and Apprentice Relay Technicians to observe technical operations and safety standards.

    What you'll do#

    • Learn the fundamentals of protective relaying, controls, alarms, distribution SCADA, and communications.
    • Write basic isolation procedures.
    • Gain knowledge of NERC compliance and the importance of accurate data and timely task completion.
    • Develop basic troubleshooting skills for relaying systems.
    • Learn to read prints and understand CT and VT circuits.
    • Practice methodical thinking and logical task organization.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment in a two-year degree program for Engineering Technology or a related major.
    • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.75.
    • Graduation date must be after August 2027.
    • A valid driver's license.
    • You must be at least 18 years old before starting the internship.
    • Ability to work on-site and pass pre-employment background and drug screenings.
    • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work at heights or from suspended platforms.
    • Willingness to wear required personal protective equipment and work in various power plant environments.

    Location & details#

    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: On-site at company facilities.
    • Locations: Opportunities are available in Charlotte, Aberdeen, Sanford, Leland, Asheville, Greensboro, Oxford, New Bern, Raleigh, Garner, and Goldsboro, North Carolina, as well as Greenville and Florence, South Carolina.
    • This is a paid, full-time position.
    • No visa sponsorship is available for this role.
