About the role#
DOWL is seeking a Water Resources Intern for the summer of 2027. This role provides engineering assistance across a variety of projects. You will receive mentorship while working with experts in hydrology, hydraulics, and hydraulic structures. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Bozeman, Montana.
What you'll do#
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and HY-8.
- Use GIS applications to determine watershed characteristics and develop map exhibits.
- Assist with field investigations, cost estimating, and technical report writing.
- Support final design and construction inspection tasks.
- Provide construction administration support.
- Collaborate with other engineering groups, including geotechnical, transportation, and structural teams.
What you'll need#
- Completion of one to two years of college-level course work toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering.
- A valid driver license.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts like statistics, probabilities, and trigonometry.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions and data to draw valid conclusions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering is preferred.
- Experience with ArcGIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred.

- This role involves both office work and intermittent field work. You may be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds during field assignments.
