About the role#
DOWL is looking for an intern to join the Construction Engineering and Inspection team for Summer 2027. This role provides engineering support for projects involving civil infrastructure and the in-service inspection of structures. You will work alongside engineers and construction professionals to manage and monitor project progress.
What you'll do#
- Research and document existing conditions at project sites.
- Perform engineering calculations for civil construction projects.
- Visit construction sites to monitor work quality and progress.
- Assist survey crews with field operations.
- Inspect transportation and heavy civil projects.
- Help with the in-service inspection of bridges, walls, culverts, and tanks.
- Handle other engineering tasks as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one to two years of college-level coursework toward a degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or construction engineering technology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts like probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals and instructions.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering is helpful.
