About the role#
DOWL is looking for an intern to join our Construction Engineering and Inspection team for Summer 2027. You will provide engineering assistance to the team responsible for managing, administering, and inspecting civil infrastructure projects. This role involves both office work and site visits to support the construction process.
What you'll do#
- Establish and document existing conditions at project sites through research and site visits.
- Perform engineering calculations to support civil engineering construction projects.
- Conduct site visits to monitor the quality and progress of work.
- Perform construction inspection for transportation and heavy civil projects.
- Assist survey crews with their daily tasks.
- Help with the in-service inspection of structures like bridges, walls, culverts, and tanks.
- Handle other engineering-related duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one to two years of college-level coursework toward a degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or construction engineering technology.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- A valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts including probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and instructions.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering fields is helpful.
