About the role#
DOWL is looking for an intern to join our Construction Engineering and Inspection team for the summer of 2027. This position provides engineering assistance to support the management, administration, and inspection of civil infrastructure projects. You will work alongside skilled engineers and construction professionals to help monitor quality and progress on various sites.
What you'll do#
- Establish and document existing conditions at project sites through research and site visits.
- Perform engineering calculations to support civil engineering construction projects.
- Monitor the quality and progress of work during site visits.
- Assist survey crews with their daily operations.
- Perform construction inspection for transportation and heavy civil projects.
- Assist in the in-service inspection of structures, including bridges, walls, culverts, and tanks.
- Complete other engineering-related duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or construction engineering technology.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering is helpful.
- A valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts like probability, statistics, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Ability to read and interpret technical journals and instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, co-workers, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks and special projects.
