About the role#
DOWL is looking for a Transportation Design Intern for the summer of 2027. This program provides one-on-one mentorship to help you gain practical experience with design projects. You will work within our transportation group to analyze, draft, and prepare design packages. The role involves a mix of office work and field visits to support our engineering teams.
What you'll do#
- Assist with field investigations, alternative solution analysis, project design, and construction inspection.
- Perform engineering calculations to support design projects.
- Tabulate bid items and calculate construction quantities.
- Provide AutoCAD drafting support.
- Prepare and route project correspondence and maintain records.
- Assist with writing and editing construction specifications and technical reports.
- Complete other engineering duties as assigned.
What you'll need#
- One to two years of college-level coursework toward a baccalaureate degree in civil engineering.
- A valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts including geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistical analysis.
- Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients, co-workers, and regulatory agencies.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
- Prior work experience in construction or civil engineering is desirable.
- Knowledge of ARC GIS and AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desirable.
