About the role#
Dominion Energy is seeking engineering students for a Summer 2027 internship within Power Delivery Operations. This program provides hands-on experience in the utility industry, focusing on the construction and maintenance of high-voltage electrical equipment. Interns will work alongside field crews to support the delivery of electricity from power plants to end users.
What you'll do#
- Work with substation construction and maintenance crews to install, inspect, test, and repair substation equipment.
- Review construction drawings, job plans, and technical documents to support field operations.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment under the supervision of qualified employees.
- Travel to various substation locations throughout the service territory.
- Support power restoration efforts following storms and outage events.
- Work in outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions and noise.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5.
- A valid driver’s license with a safe driving history.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and one-line diagrams.
- A basic understanding of electrical theory.
- Willingness to work around high-voltage equipment and follow safety protocols.
