About the role#
Detroit PBS is seeking a Production and Operations Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role supports our broadcast and digital video production through hands-on experience. You will work with producers on local programs, studio productions, field shoots, and digital content. This is an unpaid, hybrid position requiring work in the Wixom office, remote tasks, and field production support.
What you'll do#
- Assist during field, virtual, and studio production shoots.
- Gather releases and greet guests.
- Capture production stills and behind-the-scenes video for social media.
- Support producers with script notes, research, and copy editing.
- Write program descriptions and log footage.
- Create transcripts, soundbites, thumbnails, and edit plans or rough cuts.
- Review edits and provide feedback.
- Participate in weekly meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Create program cutdowns for social media platforms.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a university or vocational tech program, or graduation within the past 6 months.
- Preference for degrees in broadcasting, film, video production, telecommunications, or communications.
- Ability to work approximately 20 hours per week with a minimum of 3 days of availability.
- Basic knowledge of office applications like Excel and Word.
- Familiarity with camera operation, lighting, audio, and non-linear editing.
- Understanding of production documents, such as scripts and release forms.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Basic understanding of social media platforms.
