About the role#
The One Detroit Journalism and Video Production Intern supports the Detroit Bureau staff across all project phases. You will gain hands-on experience in video journalism and production by working directly with the producer team for our local news initiative. This is an educational internship focused on training.
What you'll do#
- Produce weekly episodes, daily social media content, and website materials.
- Support online engagement events.
- Attend department meetings to listen and offer content suggestions.
- Conduct research on production topics, logistics, and shoot locations.
- Assist with field shoots and in-studio filming.
- Help the Digital Content Specialist create social media and web posts.
- Observe show edit sessions to learn production and editing techniques.
- Prepare production materials like rundowns, scripts, and equipment lists.
- Develop promotional and community outreach elements.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a university or vocational program, or graduation within the last six months.
- Preferred majors include journalism, film, video production, telecommunications, communications, marketing, or business administration.
- Availability to work approximately 20 hours per week, with a minimum of three days on-site.
- Strong oral, written, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Media Encoder.
- Proficiency in online research and general administrative management.
