About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your didactic pharmacy school learning into real-world practice to prepare for a future role as a Pharmacist. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gain an overview of pharmacy operations, and assist the team in delivering safe and accurate patient care. This role focuses on professional development, continuous improvement, and supporting the pharmacy team to ensure smooth operations.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at workstations including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by demonstrating empathy, genuine care, and effective communication.
- Offer to counsel, field medical questions, and solicit medical history information under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Support immunizations by completing additional licensure and training requirements, educating patients, and monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Maintain compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and managing medication deliveries.
What you'll need#
- Acceptance into or active enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including availability to work nights and weekends.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain focus on tasks.
- Ability to pivot quickly between tasks and meet patient needs.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication, including active listening skills.
- Mathematical reasoning skills for tasks such as calculating dosages and day supplies.
- Ability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods, and the physical ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
