About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your academic learning to real-world practice under the direction of a preceptor. This role focuses on developing your clinical and operational skills in preparation for a future Pharmacist position. You will gain experience through a structured training roadmap that includes key learning experiences and direct collaboration with pharmacy leadership. This is a part-time, paid position.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow established pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and solicit information regarding medical history under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Complete basic inventory activities, such as putting away medication deliveries, cycle counts, and returns-to-stock, as permitted by law.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and call to clarify medication details.
- Demonstrate empathy and provide compassionate care to patients during all interactions.
- Remain flexible to meet scheduling and business needs, including potential travel to other store locations within the market.
What you'll need#
- Current acceptance into or active enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Possession of, or the process of obtaining, valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
- Capability to pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business demands.
- Strong attention to detail to confirm prescription information and label accuracy for patient safety.
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 20 lbs.
