About the role#
The Nurse Clinical Internship at Avera DeSmet Memorial Hospital offers nursing students the opportunity to practice care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse mentor. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide support and clinical care while building professional competence. This is a paid, part-time, on-site position.
What you'll do#
- Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families.
- Review physician prescriptions and coordinate care plans with the healthcare team.
- Obtain medical histories and conduct patient examinations.
- Document patient physical conditions, psychological status, and social factors.
- Develop nursing diagnoses and establish care objectives.
- Instruct patients and families on conditions, medications, and self-care requirements.
- Evaluate patient outcomes against established standards.
- Adhere to infection-control policies and medication administration procedures.
- Maintain patient care equipment and manage department supplies.
- Chart services in patient and department records.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nursing program.
- Completion of all but the final one or two semesters of your nursing program.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and staff.
- Adequate visual acuity to perform clinical duties.
- Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.
Location & details#
- Location: De Smet, South Dakota.
- Work schedule: Rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are 12 hours, with a requirement of 3 shifts per week and every third weekend or holiday rotation.
