About the role#
The Nurse Clinical Internship at Avera Queen of Peace offers students the chance to practice nursing care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse mentor. You will use the nursing process to provide patient care while taking responsibility for your actions and the outcomes of your work. This role requires a commitment to maintaining professional behavior and delivering competent care in a team environment.
What you'll do#
- Provide patient care by reviewing physician prescriptions and communicating care plans to the healthcare team.
- Offer physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families.
- Develop nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories and documenting patient conditions.
- Teach healthcare requirements and self-care skills to patients and their families.
- Evaluate patient care by measuring health outcomes and modifying care plans as needed.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment by following infection-control policies and medication protocols.
- Chart patient care services in department records.
- Operate and maintain patient care equipment and manage necessary supplies.
- Enhance nursing capabilities throughout your training period.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a CCNE or NLN accredited Registered Nursing program.
- Completion of all but the final one or two semesters of your nursing program.
- Adequate visual acuity to perform job duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others.
- Ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds.
Location & details#
- Location: Mitchell, South Dakota.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends. You will work three 12-hour shifts per week with an every third weekend or holiday rotation.
