About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world practice under the direction of a preceptor. This role focuses on gaining hands-on experience through a comprehensive training roadmap, which includes key learning experiences and exposure to store, district, and regional operations. You will support pharmacy teams in delivering safe, accurate, and compassionate care to patients while developing the skills necessary for future responsibilities as a pharmacist.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap designed to build clinical and operational aptitude.
- Assist the pharmacy team with daily operations, including prescription fulfillment at various workstations such as production, pick-up, and drop-off.
- Demonstrate empathy and genuine care during patient interactions, including fielding medical questions and providing counseling under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies regarding patient privacy, safety, and controlled substance dispensing.
- Perform inventory activities, such as cycle counts and managing medication deliveries.
- Communicate effectively with prescribers to clarify prescriptions and facilitate medication changes where permitted by regulation.
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive environment by providing support to team members and remaining receptive to feedback.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to pivot quickly between tasks to meet patient and business needs.
- Strong active listening skills to fully understand patient and colleague needs.
- Proficiency in using mathematical reasoning to solve prescription-related problems, such as calculating dosages and day supplies.
- Ability to remain mobile and stand for extended periods, with the physical capacity to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends, and the ability to travel to various store locations within the market as needed.
