About the role#
As a Product Engineer Intern, you will focus on the innovation, development, and maintenance of product designs. You will shepherd new products from initial ideation through to a successful market launch. You will hold design responsibility throughout the product life cycle and perform maintenance on existing designs, including value engineering and necessary updates. You will also lead or support quality improvement initiatives to meet IATF 16949-2016 standards and guide production teams in resolving technical issues.
What you'll do#
- Perform product and process development for fluoropolymer lined fluid handling components.
- Conduct hands-on development work, including computer-aided design, prototyping, testing, and optimization.
- Act as the technical lead on new product development projects, managing tasks and reporting within a cross-functional team.
- Apply customer and industry specifications to the development process.
- Interface with customers and suppliers to understand needs, develop applications, and identify new opportunities.
- Coordinate with vendors to specify materials for new and existing products.
- Collaborate with Product, Process, and Operational Excellence engineers to solve design problems.
- Use design processes like DFMEA, 3P, and kaizen to foster innovation.
- Ensure adherence to internal NPD processes, Engineering Change Control, and ISO 9001 procedures.
- Complete toll gates for DFMEA, PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, and process capability studies.
- Maintain compliance with standards including ISO 9001-2015, PED 2014/68/EU, API Spec. Q1, and API 6D.
What you'll need#
- You are currently pursuing a B.S. in Engineering or a related degree.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with vendors, customers, and internal teams.
- Experience with product design, development, and manufacturing processes.
- Project management skills and the ability to work as a team player with individual initiative.
- Preferred: 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing and product development.
- Preferred: Familiarity with Six Sigma tools and experimental design.
- Preferred: Expertise in plastics processing, specifically fluoropolymers, as well as machining, welding, and metal forming.
