About the role#
This is a full-time, paid summer internship based in Raleigh, North Carolina. You will work directly with project leads to gain hands-on experience with current aircraft and spacecraft designs. You will learn to apply theoretical engineering concepts to real-world projects while working alongside experienced professionals.
What you'll do#
- Learn and use HyperX and other industry-standard CAE software for design sizing and optimization.
- Perform trade studies to improve weight savings and part producibility.
- Complete both preliminary and detail design and analysis tasks.
- Document your results and present findings to industry OEM customers.
- Verify external loadings and describe how they resolve into internal mechanical and thermal load paths.
- Resolve project issues as they arise and create workaround procedures when necessary.
- Escalate complex or urgent technical problems to engineering leads.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program for Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil engineering.
- Status as a US citizen.
- Coursework completed in Statics, Strength of Materials, Composites, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
- Experience with structural analysis and design using metal or composite materials.
- Ability to perform classical stress analysis using closed-form methods.
- Familiarity with FEA and CAD software.
- Basic knowledge of structural failure modes like buckling and material strength.
- Strong skills in documentation, communication, and presentation.
