About the role#
CMC offers an internship for students interested in the construction and steel industries. You will gain hands-on experience by working across various departments, including recycling centers, fabrication plants, and manufacturing facilities. This role involves working with leadership to improve processes and contribute to real-world projects.
What you'll do#
- Cross-train within the department to learn industrial and engineering technologies.
- Conduct and analyze time and motion studies.
- Create, review, and update process flow layouts.
- Identify and recommend cost-saving opportunities related to process, quality, and safety.
- Document findings and suggest process changes.
- Work on process improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the CMC team on daily operations.
- Present a final report on an improvement project at the end of your internship.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a similar field (Junior or Senior level preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
- Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
- Knowledge of engineering software like AutoCAD and SolidWorks is preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban, Value Stream Mapping, and PDCA is a plus.
- Ability to understand and apply ISO work instructions and standard operating procedures.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Physical ability to bend, stoop, push, pull, lift, kneel, squat, crawl, and reach.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Must meet CMC attendance standards, follow work rules, and accept constructive feedback.
