About the role#
Turner Construction Company is hiring a Safety Intern for the Summer 2027 term in Detroit, Michigan. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position. You will assist with loss control and safety programs while gaining experience in construction management.
What you'll do#
- Support the implementation of the Building L.I.F.E. and project safety programs.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices.
- Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box meetings.
- Assist with training coordination for orientations and safety meetings.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for policy compliance.
- Promote safe work practices and conditions on-site.
- Administer the drug screening program.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and develop inspection summaries.
- Maintain safety records, including training logs and incident reports.
- Run worker orientation programs for new employees.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program for Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 1 year of completed education or equivalent experience.
- Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and collaboration tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- A desire to learn about the construction industry.
- Reliable transportation, as limited travel may be required.
- Ability to work standard business hours and overtime when necessary.
