About the role#
Turner Construction Company is hiring a Safety Intern to assist with loss control and safety programs at our Austin project site. This is a paid, full-time, on-site position with a rolling start date. You will work under the direction of a supervisor to ensure our sites remain safe and compliant with regulations.
What you'll do#
- Implement the Building L.I.F.E. program and other project safety initiatives.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices.
- Coordinate safety committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box talks.
- Facilitate worker orientations and safety training sessions.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance.
- Administer the drug screening program.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and document findings.
- Maintain safety records, including incident investigations, training logs, and chemical inventories.
- Conduct research for preconstruction meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program for Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field.
- At least one year of completed education or equivalent experience.
- Basic knowledge of safety and environmental principles.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard collaboration tools.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- A desire to learn about the construction management industry.
- Access to reliable transportation.
Location & details#
- Location: Austin, Texas.
- Modality: On-site at construction work sites and office locations.
- Schedule: Standard business hours with occasional overtime.
- Travel: Limited travel may be required.
- Physical requirements: You must be able to navigate active construction sites, including climbing stairs and ladders, and lift up to 25 pounds.
