About the role#
Turner Construction Company is hiring a Safety Intern for the Summer 2027 term. This is a full-time, paid, on-site position based in Irvine, California. You will work directly with project teams to support loss control efforts and ensure compliance with safety standards on active construction sites.
What you'll do#
- Support the implementation of the Building L.I.F.E. program and project safety initiatives.
- Identify and report safety violations or unsafe practices, prioritizing the prevention of harm to people or property.
- Coordinate safety duties for committees, preplanning meetings, and tool box talks.
- Assist with training sessions and worker orientations.
- Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and policy compliance.
- Help administer the drug screening program.
- Conduct jobsite inspections and document findings.
- Maintain critical safety records, including incident metrics, training logs, and chemical inventories.
- Perform research and assist with preconstruction meetings.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited degree program for Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or a related field, with at least one year of completed coursework.
- A strong interest in construction management.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard data entry tools.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational habits.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Flexibility to work standard business hours and overtime as required by the project.
- Personal accountability and a proactive, curious approach to learning.
