Graduate Student Assistant: Science

About the role#

Chatham University is seeking a Graduate Student Assistant to support undergraduate science courses. This role involves assisting in biology and chemistry laboratory sessions, as well as providing grading support for faculty members. This is a paid, part-time, on-site position.

What you'll do#

• Facilitate hands-on experiments and explain scientific concepts to undergraduate students.
• Perform lab setup, troubleshoot equipment, and guide students through experimental procedures.
• Ensure all laboratory safety protocols are strictly followed.
• Demonstrate proper techniques and explain chemical principles during chemistry labs.
• Evaluate student assignments, exams, and projects by applying grading rubrics consistently.
• Provide constructive feedback to students and maintain accurate records of student progress.
• Communicate regularly with faculty members regarding grading concerns and student performance.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a graduate student at Chatham University.
• Academic background in Biology, Chemistry, or Mathematics.
• Ability to work closely with faculty and support undergraduate learning.
• Commitment to maintaining safety standards and accurate documentation.

Location & details#

• Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
• Work Modality: On-site.
• Work Hours: Students may not work more than 20 hours per week combined across all campus jobs during the academic year and may not exceed 980 hours per calendar year.
• Term: Rolling; student positions do not automatically roll over to the next academic year or summer.
