    About the role#

    As a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineering Intern, you will work with mentors to ensure plant operations meet NRC license requirements. The role focuses on preventing criticality accidents through safety analysis and operational oversight. This is a full-time, paid internship lasting 10 to 12 weeks during the summer of 2027. You will have the opportunity to present your completed projects to the leadership team at the end of the term.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform NCS analyses to define the safety basis for process operations.
    • Execute computer models to evaluate normal operations and process upsets against NRC requirements.
    • Advise production personnel on how process changes and facility modifications impact safety.
    • Determine limits and controls to keep operations critically safe.
    • Evaluate accident sequences and designate Items Relied On For Safety.
    • Approve maintenance and operating procedures related to safety.
    • Participate in audits, inspections, and investigations of unusual incidents.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in a B.S. or M.S. degree program in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Aerospace Engineering.
    • U.S. citizenship is required.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q Clearance.

    Location & details#

    • This position is located on-site in Lynchburg, Virginia.
    • The pay rate for this position is $29.50 per hour.
    • A housing stipend is available for interns whose home of record is more than 50 miles from the work site.
