About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern at the Whiting refinery, you will join a multidiscipline team of operations, maintenance, and safety engineering personnel. You will learn refinery processes and apply engineering fundamentals to solve problems within the plant. This 12-week program allows you to build technical knowledge and develop key skills while working alongside a dedicated line manager and buddy.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support for operating units.
- Design and lead various engineering projects.
- Design modifications to fluid flow piping systems, including analyzing stresses and flexibility to ensure safe and reliable operations.
- Troubleshoot equipment and determine root causes of failures.
- Develop repair plans or improved designs per industry codes.
- Perform engineering analyses to provide evidence for financial and business decisions.
What you'll need#
- Working toward a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- Graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
- Current cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without restrictions.
