About the role#
The Mechanical Engineering Intern role is based at the Whiting refinery in Indiana. You will join a multidisciplinary team of operations, maintenance, environmental, and safety engineering personnel. This 12-week summer program focuses on building technical knowledge and applying engineering fundamentals to solve plant-related problems. You will work alongside a dedicated line manager and buddy, with opportunities to connect with other interns and grow your professional network.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support for operating units.
- Design modifications to fluid flow piping systems, including analyzing stresses and flexibility.
- Troubleshoot equipment and determine root causes of failures.
- Develop repair plans or improved designs according to industry codes such as ASME, API, ANSI, and ASTM.
- Perform engineering analyses to provide evidence for financial and business decisions.
- Identify ways to make processes more cost-effective and efficient.
What you'll need#
- Working toward a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- Graduation date between December 2028 and May 2029.
- A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Eligibility to work in the United States with no restrictions.
