About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op at the Whiting refinery, you will join a multidisciplinary team of operations, maintenance, environmental, and safety personnel. This 16-week role focuses on applying engineering fundamentals to solve real-world problems within the plant. You will learn refinery processes and equipment design while contributing to projects that improve cost-effectiveness and efficiency.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support for operating units.
- Design modifications to fluid flow piping systems, including analyzing stresses and flexibility.
- Troubleshoot equipment and determine root causes of failures.
- Develop repair plans or improved designs that meet industry codes.
- Perform engineering analyses to provide evidence for financial and business decisions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for Mechanical Engineering.
- A cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and December 2028.
- Availability to start a 16-week co-op.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without restrictions.
