About the role#
As an R&D Sustaining Engineering Intern, you will focus on optimizing and sustaining commercial intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) products used in interventional cardiology. This role provides exposure to the lifecycle management of commercial IVUS technologies by supporting design improvement and supply continuity objectives. You will work within a team environment to help maintain the supply of products that diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease.
What you'll do#
- Assist in design change activities, including feasibility studies, test method development, and product testing.
- Support investigations into failure modes, perform root cause analyses, and develop solutions to technical challenges.
- Ensure all work complies with relevant regulatory requirements and standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as project management, marketing, design assurance, manufacturing, and regulatory affairs.
- Prepare and review engineering documentation, including design change analysis, technical reports, design history files, and regulatory submissions.
- Present project updates and technical insights to engineers and managers.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Graduation date between Fall 2027 and Spring 2028.
- Ability to commit to one of the following full internship program periods: May 17th - August 6th OR May 24th - August 13th.
- Experience collaborating on an engineering project in school or in a professional environment.
- Excellent problem solving, communication, and time management skills.
- Biomedical or anatomy experience or aptitude.
- Basic understanding of design controls and risk management within the medical device industry.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship based in Maple Grove, Minnesota.
- The role follows an on-site work model.
- You must have reliable transportation to and from the Maple Grove (Arbor Lakes) Boston Scientific corporate location.
