About the role#
Boston Scientific Cardiac Diagnostics is seeking an AI-Assisted Software Development Intern to join our software team. This role is for a student who enjoys building software and has hands-on experience using AI coding agents to complete development work. You will work alongside engineers, architects, and product teams to learn how to direct AI agents effectively. This includes translating objectives into clear instructions, planning multi-step work, and iterating until the result meets requirements. You will be expected to understand the code you submit, validate AI-generated changes, and use sound software engineering judgment.
What you'll do#
- Use OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and similar tools to support day-to-day software development.
- Direct coding agents through multi-step assignments by defining objectives, constraints, acceptance criteria, and deliverables.
- Work with engineers to identify opportunities where AI-assisted development improves productivity and code quality.
- Break complex problems into smaller tasks, guide the agent through implementation, and adjust your approach when results do not meet expectations.
- Use agents to navigate codebases, implement features, investigate defects, refactor code, and automate repetitive engineering work.
- Review AI-generated code for correctness, maintainability, security, performance, and alignment with team standards.
- Develop automated unit, integration, or system tests to demonstrate behavior and protect against regression.
- Document successful prompts, patterns, and workflows for other engineers to reuse.
- Measure and communicate outcomes such as time saved, cycle-time improvement, and reduction of repetitive work.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, sprint planning, and Agile development activities.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- Graduation date between Fall 2027 and Spring 2028.
- Hands-on software development experience through coursework, personal projects, research, hackathons, or previous internships.
- Proven experience using OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, or a comparable agentic coding tool to complete tasks beyond simple code completion.
- Ability to explain how you prompted an AI agent, provided context, evaluated output, and corrected unsuccessful results.
- Understanding of software engineering fundamentals including version control, debugging, APIs, data structures, and modular design.
- Familiarity with Git and Azure or similar source-control platforms.
- Ability to read AI-generated code critically and verify that a solution satisfies its requirements.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship.
Location & details#
- Location: Arden Hills, Minnesota.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Commitment: Must be able to work full-time for one of two periods: May 17th - August 6th or May 24th - August 13th.
- Work modality: On-site (at least four days per week).
- Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to and from the Arden Hills corporate location.
