About the role#
This is a full-time internship opportunity for Winter 2027, running from January 4, 2027, to April 23, 2027. You will join the BMO team to gain practical experience, contribute to real projects, and develop your professional network through internal programs and mentorship opportunities. This role requires you to be currently enrolled in an academic program and returning to your studies upon completion of the internship.
What you'll do#
- Drive the overall software development lifecycle, including managing processes and working across functional teams to turn requirements into features.
- Translate user needs into technical specifications and manage the preparation of design documentation.
- Write, test, and debug code for business systems and service applications.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and fault rectification for system components.
- Ensure all configurations and code adhere to security, logging, error handling, and performance standards.
- Evaluate new technologies for system fit and assess their impact on data and risk.
- Apply the Risk Management Framework to protect bank assets and adhere to regulatory policies.
- Follow release management standards and apply version controls.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an academic program with an intent to return to studies.
- Intermediate proficiency in programming, applications integration, test-driven development, and system integration.
- Experience with the system development lifecycle and troubleshooting.
- Foundational skills in cloud computing, microservices, and technology business requirements analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with a focus on collaboration.
- Demonstrated adaptability, learning agility, and creative thinking.
- Technical proficiency gained through education or previous business experience.
