About the role#
The Alpha Research Team is seeking an undergraduate student for a 12-month co-op placement. You will join a team of quantitative researchers, analysts, and developers to build the technology and data infrastructure that supports security forecasting, portfolio analytics, and investment decision-making. This role offers the chance to contribute to long-term initiatives from initial design through to production support.
What you'll do#
- Build and enhance tools, libraries, and frameworks for quantitative research, factor modeling, and machine learning workflows.
- Develop and maintain pipelines to ingest, validate, transform, and distribute financial datasets.
- Create dashboards, APIs, utilities, and analytical applications to improve research workflows.
- Collaborate with researchers to translate models and forecasting signals into reliable, well-documented code.
- Assist with the deployment, automation, monitoring, and operational support of quantitative solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, version control, and CI/CD workflows.
- Partner with investment and technology professionals to gather requirements and deliver practical solutions.
- Explore new development frameworks, data tools, and quantitative technologies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate co-op program in Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field.
- Completion of the third year of study prior to the start of the placement.
- Working proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Experience working with structured or unstructured datasets.
- Familiarity with object-oriented programming, modular design, testing, version control, and maintainable code.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to solve open-ended technical problems.
- Ability to communicate clearly, receive feedback, document work, and contribute to a team.
- Interest in quantitative finance, investment management, financial markets, or the application of technology to investment research.
