About the role#
Exegy is looking for a Software Developer Intern to join our engineering team in Montreal. This role focuses on developing Python software, automation tools, and internal applications to improve the efficiency and reliability of our technology processes. You will work alongside experienced developers and systems engineers on production-oriented projects. This is a 4-month co-op position for the Winter 2027 term, with the possibility of an 8-month extension.
What you'll do#
- Develop, test, debug, and maintain Python scripts, applications, and automation tools.
- Design automated workflows to reduce manual engineering and operational tasks.
- Build internal tools for system provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and testing.
- Work with APIs, structured data, and existing software systems to integrate processes.
- Assist in maintaining software that supports our high-performance technology platforms.
- Troubleshoot software issues and contribute to root-cause analysis.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Develop unit tests and participate in code reviews.
- Maintain technical documentation for scripts, workflows, and engineering processes.
- Collaborate with technical teams to translate requirements into software solutions.
- Research and evaluate new technologies and approaches.
- Participate in team meetings and the software development lifecycle.
What you'll need#
- Nearing the end of a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (S3 or equivalent).
- Experience programming in Python.
- Understanding of software development fundamentals, including data structures, object-oriented programming, testing, and debugging.
- Familiarity with Git or another source-control system.
- Interest in software automation, internal tooling, DevOps, systems engineering, or infrastructure technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a technical team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in French and English.
- Exposure to Linux, REST APIs, CI/CD, cloud technologies, or financial technology is a plus but not required.
