About the role#
This internship focuses on risk and resilience planning. You will support hazard mitigation, disaster preparedness, and community resilience projects across the United States. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver technical solutions and engage with clients to support business development.
What you'll do#
- Support the Community Resilience GIS team with hazard vulnerability and risk assessment analysis.
- Create and manage data communication through StoryMaps, dashboards, and website integration.
- Learn to use the FEMA risk assessment platform, Hazus.
- Coordinate stakeholder outreach strategies and support client workshops.
- Assist in the development of new risk assessment tools and methodologies.
- Provide task leadership on resilience planning studies and projects.
- Support engagement efforts to help develop new business.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at a university in a related program of specialty.
- A Bachelor's degree in geospatial data sciences, remote sensing, or urban and regional planning.
- Practical experience in hazard mitigation, resilience, disaster preparedness, or coastal and sea level rise impacts.
- Ability to analyze complex situations and provide solutions.
- Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including a criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
