As a Student Indigenous Relations Coordinator, you will support initiatives aimed at building respectful relationships, promoting cultural awareness, and advancing reconciliation efforts. This internship provides a business-relevant project where you will independently manage your own area of responsibility with support from a supervisor and technical mentor. We are seeking a student for a 4, 8, or 12-month co-op position starting in September 2026.
What you'll do#
- Act as a liaison between the organization and Indigenous communities by participating in engagement activities and facilitating open communication.
- Organize and participate in events, workshops, and cultural activities that promote respect for Indigenous cultures, traditions, and history.
- Research Indigenous policies and best practices to support the development of effective engagement and relationship-building strategies.
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate Indigenous perspectives, values, and knowledge into organizational projects and policies.
- Support the development and delivery of educational materials and training sessions to enhance staff awareness regarding Indigenous issues.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous leaders, organizations, and stakeholders.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a University, College, or Trade program, with at least one semester of education remaining after the internship.
- Experience in event planning or the coordination of cultural activities.
- Proficiency in data entry, record keeping, and information systems.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, for report generation and data analysis.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Previous experience in Indigenous community engagement, advocacy, or related work is considered an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain positive relationships.
