About the role#
Bird Construction is seeking a Student HSE Coordinator for a co-op position starting in September 2026. This internship provides an opportunity to manage specific responsibilities while receiving guidance from a supervisor and technical mentor. You will work on-site to support health, safety, and environment initiatives within a construction setting.
What you'll do#
- Support site supervision with the implementation and management of the Bird Safety Program.
- Collaborate with project management to develop site-specific safe work practices, procedures, and hazard assessments.
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections and document findings on-site.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations and follow up on corrective action items.
- Monitor accident and incident statistics, frequencies, and safety violations.
- Ensure trade contractors comply with the Bird Construction HSE program and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate safety meetings and provide site-specific orientations for new workers and visitors.
- Provide first aid assessment and treatment as necessary.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Health, Safety, and Environment diploma or an equivalent program.
- Completion of at least one semester of education following the internship.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Ability to maintain positive relationships and work collaboratively.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Capability to adapt to a frequently changing environment.
- Residency or a valid work permit allowing employment in Canada.
- Submission of a current transcript with your application.
